A Stylish Return: The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Balances Glamour with Real-World Truths

I didn’t go into The Devil Wears Prada sequel with huge expectations. Not because I thought it would fall short, but because I wasn’t looking for it to surpass the original. The first film is, quite simply, a feel-good classic. It sits alongside films like Home Alone, Bring It On, and Sex and the City—not necessarily because of genre, but because it’s endlessly rewatchable. The kind of film you can watch a hundred times and probably have.

What makes The Devil Wears Prada so significant to me personally is how it merges two of my passions: fashion and journalism. For that reason, it has always stood as the ultimate feel-good film in my eyes. My only real expectation for the sequel was for another feel good movie that would once again bring those two worlds together, and in that respect, it didn’t disappoint.

The fashion was, of course, impeccable, and the cast delivered exactly what we’ve come to expect: charisma, sharpness, and undeniable presence. But what stood out most was how this sequel tapped into the realities we’re all currently facing, addressing themes that feel both urgent and necessary.

Across the globe, people are losing jobs and struggling to find stability. The line between journalism and opinion has become increasingly blurred, with gossip often masquerading as credible reporting. Creatives are watching their work and originality challenged, if not overshadowed by the rise of artificial intelligence. And many continue to fight to preserve passion, heritage, and craftsmanship in a world that often prioritises profit above all else.

At times, it feels as though we’re all watching the same story unfold in real time, collectively wondering what the resolution might be. Rising unemployment, the dilution of meaningful media, and the growing tension between technology and authenticity are not just plot points, they’re realities.

A great film or book is often measured by how inspiring, relatable, entertaining, or informative it is. This sequel confidently delivers on three of those four. I left the cinema feeling inspired, energised to create, and more focused than ever on authenticity. I saw reflections of real-world struggles that felt deeply relatable, and I was thoroughly entertained by a story that still speaks to my dreams.

And importantly, it ended well. So for those who are avoiding the cinema to preserve the  greatness of the first, there's no need. Don't compare the two just enjoy the two and feel good whilst watching!
