Neo-soul artist Lei Lowe released her single PSG this October, which ironically dropped around the same time the “boyfriends are embarrassing” article went viral. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect — as the internet dissected modern dating dynamics, Lei stepped into the conversation with a smooth, self-assured soundtrack that felt both playful and powerful.
I met Lei at an event a month prior to her single’s release, and the first thing that caught my eye was just how pretty she was. Her hair was styled to perfection, every swoop and swirl laid with intention — it genuinely made me wish I hadn’t cut my own hair so low, so I could’ve joined her in the aesthetic. Beyond the surface, though, it was her effortless style and undeniable pretty-girl energy that stood out. The kind that translates into warm smiles, genuine conversation, and a presence that makes you feel seen from the moment you meet her. That energy became the foundation of our interaction.
Lei left no stone unturned in getting us excited to hear PSG. Her visuals took us straight back to a time when music videos really mattered — when they made or broke your commitment to a song. There was an intentional nostalgia in the way she presented the world of PSG. She gathered a multitude of beautiful girls from all backgrounds and experiences and posed one simple, layered question: “Why are the pretty girls single?”
The song speaks into the flakiness of men in the DMs and that sudden surge of interest only when a woman appears broken, unavailable, or unsure of herself. It touches on the irony of how confidence and wholeness can sometimes be intimidating, rather than attractive, in today’s dating culture. Yet, while the visuals gave us softness, glam, and pure pretty-girl aesthetics, the message ran much deeper. It was about inner strength, emotional independence, and a self-love that doesn’t require external validation.
Many people will hear the catchy hook and only catch the surface-level appeal. But what PSG really uncovers is the importance of wholeness. It challenges the narrative that singleness equals lack, and instead highlights a truth we don’t hear enough — that many women around the globe who are single… are actually pretty happy, secure, and thriving.
And really, isn’t that the prettiest thing of all?

The Pretty-Girl Mindset (Non-negotiables)
This is the foundation. Without it, nothing in the kit works properly.
• Radical self-awareness
• Emotional boundaries
• The ability to be alone without feeling lonely
• Softness isn't weakness
• Confidence without arrogance
• Wholeness over attention
‘PRETTY GIRLS DON’T CHASE - THEY ATTRACT, BETTER YET, THEY CHOOSE.’

Physical Essentials (Because Presentation Does Matter)
Pretty is a feeling as much as a look, but a few physical essentials help you step into your main character energy daily:
• Lip gloss or lip oil (hydration + attitude)
• Mini perfume or body mist
• Hand cream (soft hands = soft life)
• A small mirror (for reminders more than reflections)
• Hair ties or brush (for order in chaos)
• A signature accessory (for this occasion we are going with a silk scarf)
‘PRETTY GIRLS DON’T JUST SHOW UP, THEY ARRIVE.'

Emotional Survival Tools
For the flaky DMs, mixed signals, and sudden attention when you’re “almost moved on”:
• A Notes app full of affirmations and truths
• Your own relationship red & green flags list
• A “Do Not Reply” reminder for late-night texts
• A journal for processing instead of oversharing
• The ability to romanticise your own life instead
‘NO REPLY IS A REPLY AND SILENCE IS SOMETIMES SELF RESPECT.'
The Self-Love Toolkit
This part is inspired directly by PSG; staying pretty because you’re whole, not because you’re chosen.

A self-care Sunday ritual
A worship playlist / neo-soul + gospel + R&B mix
A prayer or affirmation you say every morning
A gratitude list of 5 things daily

A Pretty Girl Playlist (Core Energy)

Community & Connection
Pretty girls don’t compete, they connect.
• At least 2 girlfriends who:
• Pray for you
• Tell you the truth
• Celebrate your wins
• One older woman/mentor
• One creative sister
• One friend who will drag you outside when you hide

Spiritual Armour (The Unseen Glow)
This is where the glow really comes from:
• Daily prayer or meditation
• Scriptures / affirmations about identity
• Protection over your heart + womb + mind
• Speaking life over your future
• Knowing who you are in God
‘BECAUSE HEALING SOUNDS LIKE HARMONY.’
‘STRENGTH MULTIPLIES IN SISTERHOOD.'
‘THE SURFACE OF PRETTY FADES, PURPOSE DOESN'T.'
You are not single because you are lacking.
You are single because you are whole, selective and becoming.
Pretty is seen.
But wholeness is felt.
And that will always be in style
