THE BEFFTA AWARDS

The BEFFTA Awards were established to celebrate the creative talents working tirelessly behind the scenes. While countless award shows spotlight the well-known, this event uniquely aims to make the invisible visible. Dr. Pauline Long, the founder, opened the evening with her personal story, sharing her vision for recognising often-overlooked talents and the beauty of bringing these individuals into the spotlight.
The day and night were filled with a vibrant showcase of talents, inspiring one another and their communities. Any initiative that brings people together through positivity and talent deserves to be recognised and supported.

It’s a stark reality that we often only notice talent once it’s famous, forgetting that fame rarely comes overnight. For example, the first Academy Awards presentation, now known as the Oscars, took place in 1929 at a private dinner at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, with an intimate audience of around 270. It wasn’t until 1953—almost 30 years later—that the ceremony was televised. Nearly a century on, it has become one of the world’s most prestigious awards shows, fulfilling its original intent of celebrating talent in the film industry.

So, whatever your heart desires, pursue it with purpose. Make a positive, creative contribution to the world—you never know who’s watching. And if you’re the one doing the watching, make it count.

FLOELLA - In March, we spoke with creative director Floella Alto about her transition into this new role. Since then, she has worked exceptionally hard to make a name for herself, and on Saturday, 26th, her dedication was celebrated as she was awarded Creative Director of the year.
